Event Details

This is a self-paced, open entry and open exit workshop conducted completely online.

KITCenter virtual workshops are designed to deliver timely content on demand. Workshops may contain video, podcasts, websites, discussion groups and downloadable information. Participants may occasionally be required to participate in online discussions.

This virtual workshop will introduce you to many concepts useful in the construction of a map.  You should complete the Introduction GIS 1 virtual workshop or have experience using ArcMap before taking this virtual workshop.

In this workshop you will learn how to merge multiple shapefiles together that have the same attributes.  You work with querying of data after you have done your shapefile merging.  Querying of data is the process in which you request information to be displayed in a certain way, such as how many people are of a certain ethnic group.  In addition this workshop will work with the creation and manipulation of data sets, including manual and calculated data inputs.

In this workshop you will also learn the basics of making a map. You will either need to have a local copy of ArcMap (ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo) available or use a remote copy.  If you do not have a local copy, please let us know and we can make available a remote copy that is a fully functional version.
